    Native Plant Conservation Campaign

The West Virginia Native Plant Society is an affiliate of the Native Plant Conservation Campaign (NPCC), being spearheaded by the California Native Plant Society. The goals of the campaign include greater protection for native plants under the Endangered Species Act, and a boost in the number of professional botanists in federal and state agencies.

    Global Plant Conservation Strategy

The Convention on Biological Diversity adopted a Global Plant Conservation Strategy at its April meeting in The Hague. Click here to read the strategy.
NPCC worked with U.S. conservation groups and with U.S. representatives to the Conference of Parties (the U.S. has not ratified the Convention on Biological Diversity, but participates as a non-signatory nation) to lobby for adoption of the strategy. The Strategy is historic in that it includes quantitative - although non-binding - targets for conservation with a timeline for their attainment. This strategy provides a tangible framework for native plant conservation work and with concrete, and internationally accepted, objectives to work towards in our regions, States, and with agencies.
